Ms. Lahiri earned her degree from New York University, completed Yoga Teacher Training in 2004, and holds certifications in Reiki I & II, Natural Health, Life Coaching, Time Management, and SMART Recovery Facilitator Training. Anitra Lahiri volunteers with addiction recovery groups, speaking to them about the amazing possibilities that recovery can bring them. When not writing or speaking to nonprofit groups, she’s usually enjoying time with her husband and best friend of 25+ years, their two extraordinary sons, and their beloved furry four-leggeds. She and her husband love watching wildlife and spending time outdoors. Dr. Luis Martínez-Fernández is a historian, nationally syndicated columnist, multiple-award winning author, consultant, and public speaker, whose fields of expertise include Latin America, the Caribbean, Cuba, education, and Latino/Hispanic politics and culture, and cross-cultural communications. Born in Havana, Cuba and raised in Lima, Peru and San Juan, Puerto Rico, he holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in History from the University of Puerto Rico and a Ph.D. in History from Duke University. Dr. Martínez-Fernández has vast experience as consultant in the areas of education, diversity, transcultural communications, outreach, media, and publishing. A Pegasus Professor of History at the University of Central Florida, he is recognized as one of the most prolific and influential scholars in the field of Caribbean history. His publications include articles in Cuban Studies, Slavery and Abolition, Latin American Research Review, The Americas, Caribbean Studies, and in numerous edited volumes. His books include: Fighting Slavery in the Caribbean, Revolutionary Cuba: A History, widely acclaimed as the most comprehensive and systematic study on the subject ever written and Key to the New World: A History of Early Colonial Cuba, winner of the 2018 Florida Book Awards' Bronze Medal for General Nonfiction and 2019 International Latino Book Awards Gold Medal, History Category. His forthcoming book, All History Is Contemporary History: Politics, Culture and the Unimaginable Events of 2019-2022," is scheduled for publication in 2022. In 2001, Dr. Martínez-Fernández was recognized among the most influential Hispanic leaders in the U S in the nationally televised special "Viva! Top Twenty Powerbrokers." He served as trustee of the College Board (2009-2015) and in numerous professional, editorial, and community boards, among them the Cuban Studies journal, the South Atlantic Humanities Center, Hispanic Young Professionals, the Community Advisory Board of WMFE (Central Florida's NPR and PBS stations), and the Board of Directors of the Historical Society of Central Florida. In 2005 he founded the annual Latin American Cultural Festival of Orlando. In March 2019, Martínez-Fernández joined the Board of Directors of the National Council for History Education and assumed the role of Board Secretary; and in July 2020, was elected to the Academy of Cuban History in Exile. Dr. Martínez-Fernández has contributed op-eds to The Globe Post. In September 2020, he began a nationally syndicated weekly column distributed by Creators Syndicate.

Hello, my name is Latrea Anita Russ, I live in Wilmington, NC with my eighteen-year-old daughter and husband. I was born with a rare genetic syndrome called Pfeiffer syndrome; this disorder causes the bones not to fuse properly. In my case, the bones did not fuse correctly in my skull which meant there were areas of my brain that were exposed. I also had no stims to prevent my skill from crushing my brain at birth. I have had forty-plus surgeries to try and correct various issues with my skills and brain. This is one of many reasons my company “More than My Disability” was created. My daughter is eighteen and she has ADHD as well as other challenges, so I understand from a parent's perspective what it is like having a child with a disability. Here’s another reason my company “More Than My Disability” was created! My daughter needs a haven somewhere safe to be free of judgment. I know that painful place and I didn’t want her to have to experience that. Helping children not feel the pain I felt is important to me. Starting with my daughter, I can show what allows children to be free and truly who they are through my daughter. Let’s shift gears to my husband. I am happily married to a man with Cerebral Palsy. He is wheelchair-bound; that wheelchair doesn’t stop NOTHING! My husband is a phenomenal DJ. ( I promise I am not just saying that because he’s, my husband! LOL ) Our relationship is one of the main reasons “More Than My Disability” exists. People have this incorrect perception that individuals with disabilities don’t have successful relationships, don’t have sex, and don’t have children. The truth is there are many of us within this community that have great marriages, children, etc. The barrier is being a part of a world that doesn’t see or hear us! A world that assumes the word DISABILTY means fully incapable. My company “More Than My Disability” was created to show those who live a similar lifestyle as me the endless possibilities. It’s not easy living in a world that doesn’t see or hear you. My intentions are to advocate for those like me and educate those who are unaware of me and my community.

Chaim Steg was born in 1986. As a child growing up in Lakewood, New Jersey, Chaim was fascinated by the colors and textures of the rich natural environment that surrounded him.
