Ed Smith is an African American from Brownsville, Brooklyn, NY. Ed attended Westinghouse Technical High School and studied marketing and computer science and Pace University. After studying microprocessor technology at Fairchild while developing traffic control signals at a firm called Marbelite, the computer bug hit Ed at an early age. He would read Popular Electronics, Popular Mechanics and Omni magazines to stay caught up in a whirlwind of technological change. Ed’s second home was Radio Shack. By 1976, Ed was hired by APF Electronics in New York to work on the next generation video game after the success of TV Fun, a version of Pong. Ed’s role at APF included collaboration on hardware design, building the prototypes as well as Joystick and I/O port design for the MP1000 video game. The MP1000 competed directly with Atari and Coleco during the first generation of cartridge-based games. By 1978, Ed and the APF design team leveraged the processing power of the MP1000 and the I/O design by Ed to add a computer console unit to the MP1000, creating the Imagination Machine personal computer. Since his time at APF, Ed has been involved in almost every area of emerging technology with stints at Apple, Novell, Infosys Technologies and Kronos, developing global partner relationships that generated hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue. Ed worked with firms at the senior executive level in areas of Mainframe and Mini Computer Integration, Networking, Enterprise Application Development and Integration, Open Source Solutions, Workforce Management, ERP, CRM, Cloud Computing and Big Data. Ed has worked with some of the top firms in the industry to deliver joint solutions that are seamlessly integrated. Some of the firms Ed has partnered with to deliver pervasive solutions to global clients include IBM, HP, Digital Equipment, Oracle, Microsoft, Unisys, SAP, Workday, Informatica, Kronos, Tibco, Intel, Adobe, Amazon, Google and others. Ed has been recognized for his early pioneering work in the video game and personal computer industry by numerous publications including Fast Company and Vintage Computing. He is listed as one of seven Black tech pioneers by PC Magazine. His book “Imagine That!” is now available on Amazon eBooks. Ed is an active speaker at corporations, organizations, high schools and universities across the country, telling his story of being a dreamer and overcoming almost impossible odds to escape the ghetto stereotypes and eventually be hired as an African American engineer in the early 1970s. Ed currently resides in Florida with his wife, Sheila.

“Rhonda is borderline obsessed with fostering collaboration and creating impact.” -Rhonda, about herself Rhonda is from a tiny town in Northeast Indiana. Her rural upbringing and country roots served as the foundation for her beliefs and identity around hard work and supporting the common good. Rhonda launched her first business at the age of 19 after graduating from a massage therapy school. She sold that business 5 years later and put herself through undergrad. Rhonda worked 10 years in higher education from everything from admissions to institutional research to the university registrar (which she calls the “paid enemy of everyone on campus”). During that time she completed her master’s degree in Public Management (with a minor in Public Policy & Administration) and she completed her greatest accomplishment to date, bringing her son home from his birthplace in China to his forever family in the U.S. In 2017, Rhonda became Executive Director for Start Fort Wayne, a young 501(c)3 designed to launch and scale ventures in tech and high-growth ventures. During that time, she coached countless founders on their next steps towards turning an idea into a thriving business. She took a fledgling nonprofit and created a sustainable, forward-facing, laser-focused strategy and plan for growth; and she planned and launched the region’s first Startup Week, a week-long conference dedicated to all things entrepreneurship, by global accelerator Techstars. From there, she started her own consulting company, Ladig Consulting, to hyper-focus on projects and problems where she felt she could have the most impact. Additionally, in 2022, she began reshaping entrepreneurship and innovation support at the Northeast Indiana Innovation Center as Director of Strategic Initiatives. Rhonda believes in bucking a way-we’ve-always done it mentality to find innovative approaches to (often ancient) societal problems. She believes if we bring down silos between NPOs and NGOs we can get more done in our communities. (And she usually has an idea or two on how to do it.) Rhonda doesn’t mince words, which sometimes means she doesn’t make friends. But that’s ok; she doesn’t want more friends. She wants to change the world.
