TJ Granson is a former Fire Captain at the Kokomo Fire Department, Kokomo, IN. With hard work and determination, he earned his rank at 34. While in the service, Granson also became a technician level in many different disciplines. He was a Hazmat Tech, Rope Tech, Vehicular Extrication Tech, etc. Apart from being a firefighter at that time, Granson was also an entrepreneur. While in service to the Fire Department, he put up his own Epoxy line business, Tj’s Painting and Epoxy. He started from scratch, and then he attended multiple classes to learn more about concrete floor coating. Surprisingly, his business flourished, prompting him to add more employees. Granson and his workers then learned epoxy floor applications, hybrid floor applications, and polished concrete finishes. Though every floor application they do was a challenge, it was what kept them interested in the job. Despite the continued growth of his business, Granson decided to withdraw himself from the business for two reasons. First, he realized that the Indiana weather is not ideal for concrete floor coating. Second, having to manage a business and being a firefighter made him miss out on family life. When he took a step back from his business, he focused on his firefighting job. This was the time when he worked hard every single day to achieve his goal of following his grandfather’s footsteps— Joe Granson, who was a captain and eventually became the fire chief at the Kokomo Fire Department in Kokomo, Indiana. Just over a year when he was promoted captain, the COVID-19 pandemic hit worldwide. This led to a crucial decision that Granson and his wife had to make about their careers. One of them had to leave their job and become a full-time parent to their five children. The couple then decided that TJ would become a full-time dad, while his wife, Abby, would continue her nursing job. This new parenting arrangement was a tough one to both couples — a role reversal. Thereafter, Granson devoted his time to his family especially to his five children. From being a firefighter, he became a teacher, chef, and a coach to his children. The lifestyle change of leaving a career and accepting the role of a full-time parent was the hardest adjustment in TJ Granson’s life, but it was the biggest accomplishment for him as well. His work as a father demands a great amount of patience. In spite of this, watching his children happy about their achievements, academically and athletically, is an accomplishment in itself to Granson. TJ’s children have excelled in both of these fields when he decided to be a stay-at-home dad and focused his time and energy to his kids. Jo-Seph, otherwise known as Joe Griffin, has established his career as an educator, coach, and school principal in the past 19 years. Before building his professional career, he graduated with honors from two institutions namely Belhaven University and Coahoma Community College. He went through college with scholarships as he excelled both in academics and basketball. After graduation, he worked as an English Teacher and an Assistant Coach for basketball, football, and track at the Coahoma County Junior/Senior High School from 2002 to 2005. During that time, he also became the head coach for the Junior High Basketball team. He also became the Principal of the West Bolivar High School from 2012 to 2014, realigning the curriculum to put more focus on student improvement and increasing test scores. Furthermore, he continuously looked for ways to become a very productive and helpful school head. In just one year, he was able to reduce fights at the Amanda Elzy High School from 68 to 13. Additionally, he implemented instructional norms that helped them set up academic programs. Being one of his greatest achievements as a principal, he drove Moss Point High School from a D to a B status during his first year of service and maintained it until the end of his term last year. This accomplishment brought him the honor of being called the MPSD Administrator of the year 2018. At present, he is working as an adjunct professor of English at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College while serving as the Principal of the Meridian High School. While doing his duties as a school principal for the past few years, he also served as an adjunct professor of Health at the Mississippi State University and of English at the Coahoma Community College.
