This keynote for the ASHG Annual Convention Allan Award given to the team that deciphered the genetic code delineates the importance of the work of the human genome project to the development of all children now and in the future to alleviate and eventually end the suffering of all children born with genetic impairments leading to physical and mental disabilities and extolling the virtues of the strength of these individuals. in order that they may continue to serve as a source. These remarkable children continue to be a source of inspiration to us. I spoke on the importance of such work to us as parents because of the value these children bring to the lives of all lucky enough to encounter them.
