Social media has become a game-changer for public speakers looking to grow their visibility and attract opportunities. Platforms like LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook allow you to showcase your expertise, connect with event organizers, and build a loyal following. However, simply having an account isn’t enough; you need a strategic approach to stand out and get discovered. Here’s how to leverage social media effectively to elevate your speaking career.
Your social media presence is an extension of your personal brand. Before diving into posting, take time to clarify what you want to be known for as a speaker. Ask yourself:
What is my niche?
What audience do I want to reach?
What value can I offer through my content?
Once you’ve defined your brand, ensure your profiles consistently reflect it. Use professional headshots, include a clear bio that highlights your expertise, and link to your speaker website or SpeakerHUB profile.
Example for LinkedIn Bio:
"Leadership Speaker | Helping Teams Thrive Through Emotional Intelligence and Authentic Communication | Keynotes | Workshops | [link to your SpeakerHUB profile]"
Not every social media platform is ideal for every speaker. Focus on the platforms that best match your audience and speaking goals:
LinkedIn: Ideal for business, leadership, and professional niches. Connect directly with event organizers and showcase your thought leadership.
Twitter: Great for sharing quick insights, engaging in trending conversations, and building relationships with industry professionals.
Instagram: Perfect for visually sharing behind-the-scenes moments, snippets of your talks, or motivational content.
Facebook: Useful for building a community through groups and promoting events to a broad audience.
YouTube: The go-to platform for showcasing full talks or snippets to demonstrate your speaking style.
To get discovered as a speaker, focus on creating and sharing content that showcases your expertise and connects with your audience. Here’s what you can post:
Short videos: Share snippets from your speaking engagements, behind-the-scenes content, or quick tips related to your niche.
Thought leadership posts: Write articles or posts that highlight your unique insights on trending topics in your industry.
Success stories: Share testimonials or feedback from past events to build credibility.
Infographics or quotes: Create visually engaging content that’s easy to share and reflects your core message.
Pro Tip: Use tools like Canva to design professional-looking graphics or captions that resonate with your audience.
Social media isn’t just about broadcasting—it’s about building relationships. Engaging with your followers, potential clients, and other professionals is key to growing your visibility. Here’s how to do it:
Respond to Comments: Acknowledge those who engage with your posts to foster connection and conversation.
Join Relevant Groups: Participate in Facebook or LinkedIn groups related to your niche and provide value by answering questions or sharing insights.
Tag and Collaborate: Mention event organizers, co-speakers, or brands you’ve worked with in your posts to expand your reach.
Regular, authentic engagement positions you as approachable and helps you stay top-of-mind for future speaking opportunities.
Hashtags and keywords can increase your discoverability by making your content searchable. Use them strategically based on your niche and target audience. For example:
Leadership speakers might use #LeadershipDevelopment, #TeamBuilding, or #EmotionalIntelligence.
Technology speakers might use #AI, #TechTrends, or #DigitalTransformation.
Research trending hashtags in your industry and incorporate them into your posts to reach a wider audience.
Video content is one of the most effective ways to showcase your speaking skills on social media. Platforms like Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube, and LinkedIn video posts prioritize this format, making it an excellent tool to get noticed.
What to Share in Videos:
Clips from your keynotes or workshops.
Behind-the-scenes moments from speaking engagements.
Quick tips or insights relevant to your niche.
Responses to audience questions or trending topics.
Keep videos engaging and authentic, and include captions for accessibility.
Social media allows you to connect directly with event organizers, influencers, and other speakers. Here’s how to use it for networking:
Follow Event Pages: Engage with conferences, industry events, and organizations that host speaking opportunities.
Connect With Organizers: Reach out to event planners or decision-makers on LinkedIn with a personalized message that highlights your expertise.
Collaborate With Influencers: Partner with thought leaders in your niche for co-hosted live sessions, podcasts, or shared content to expand your reach.
Don’t shy away from showcasing your availability for speaking engagements. Use your profiles to highlight your expertise and let people know how to book you.
Ways to Promote Yourself:
Pin a post with a link to your SpeakerHUB profile or website.
Share testimonials and feedback from past events.
Post a call-to-action in your bio or captions, such as:
“Looking for a keynote speaker who delivers actionable insights? Let’s connect!”
Use social media analytics to measure the success of your efforts. Platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook offer insights into post engagement, follower growth, and audience demographics. Use these insights to:
Identify what type of content resonates most.
Refine your strategy based on audience preferences.
Experiment with new formats or topics to expand your reach.
Social media is a powerful tool for building your visibility and attracting speaking opportunities, but success requires consistency and strategy. By showcasing your expertise, engaging authentically, and leveraging the unique strengths of each platform, you can position yourself as a sought-after speaker.
