SMALL TOWN, HUGE DREAMS! Adell Harris is an INSPIRATION, a powerful communicator of the pure greatness that exists within the human experience and the human spirit. Adell is a native of High Point, N.C., where she was known for her basketball talent and her ability to inspire all those around her. Adell is a 1998 graduate of T.W. Andrews, where she is a member of the athletics hall of fame and where she earned a full athletic scholarship to Wake Forest University. During her career as a Demon Deacon, she captured the Joel Coliseum single-game assist record for Women’s Basketball, when she dropped 10 dimes versus Georgia Tech in her freshman season and then again versus Florida State in her senior campaign. She finished 10th all-time in career assist with 241. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Wake Forest, she went on to pursue a career in collegiate coaching. She began as an assistant coach at the University of North Carolina at Asheville, where she spent six years and helped guide the program to it’s first ever NCAA tournament appearance in 2007. Her next stop was at Tusculum College, where she was named Head Women’s Basketball Coach in the spring of 2009. At Tusculum, Harris guided the Pioneers to three straight winning seasons, including the programs first ever NCAA Elite Eight appearance in 2010. In May of 2012, Harris was hired as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where she became one of the nations youngest NCAA division I coaches at the age of 31. She has amassed over 100 career wins as a head coach while also graduating every senior she’s coached. In April 2017, after a 19-year coaching career, Harris decided to resign her position as Head Women’s Basketball Coach to begin a full-time career in public speaking, personal development and all out INSPIRATION. Her mission is to inspire the world to honor their gifts and believe in their greatness. In June 2017, she founded the ‘Refuse To Lose’ company to provide the platform for her services. Hello, I am Lisa Cybaniak, Motivational Speaker and Success Coach. My mission is to break the stigma of being abused by breaking my silence. I specialise in helping women build a life of value and worth after abuse. I grew up in an abusive home where I was physically, psychologically, and sexually abused by my now ex-step father for 10 years. He told me every day that I was ugly, stupid, useless, worthless and unlovable. I believed him, not just because I heard the words for so long, but because that was what I saw unfolding all around me. Every situation in my life seemed to be shouting ‘He’s right!’ I saw everything in this way because that’s what I needed to see. I turned the most positive experiences into negativity because that was comfortable for my mind. In my early twenties, I finally began to see the pattern in the mistakes I was apparently determined to repeat, over and over again. My choice in men was less than exceptional, for example. I kept choosing men who were not ready, willing or able to love and commit to me. For a long time I blamed myself, thinking I was attracting them to me because I deserved that treatment. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks - I didn’t believe I deserved better, so I wasn’t allowing myself any better. I also realised that my amazing way of protecting myself from getting hurt, whether it be in relationships or in the workforce, was actually holding me back. I was preventing myself from experiencing love and success because I was so afraid of failure that I couldn’t risk it on the whim that it might not happen. I had an ah-hah moment then, when I realised that the very act of shielding myself from failure WAS failure - a failure to believe in myself, not just my abilities and worth, but in my ability to handle rejection or loss. Changing these patterns, and my mindset was a challenge, but I did it! I taught myself just how useful, worthy, and lovable I really am. I fell in love with myself – with my strength and the beauty that lay within. Being positive became my new comfort zone. I continue to heal from my experiences, and my reactions to them, every day because that is what recovery really is - it is realising that I am the person I am today not despite what happened to me, but because of it. I had no control over what happened in my past, but I do have control over how I let it influence my life now. Now I am speaking out, using my lifetime of experience, growth, and healing to help others do the same – help them to live the life they deserve, one full of love and respect, success and laughter. My blog, website, coaching, workshops, and motivational speaking are all ways I reach out in service of others. My mission is to continue speaking out; to shed the stigma of surviving child abuse; to empower others to find their purpose after trauma, to build the life they deserve; to speak up and tell my story in hopes of inspiring others.
