Stephen’s rare power as a speaker flows from his remarkable diversity of professional achievement. He blends the big picture perspective of an Ivy League academic with the storytelling skills of a global strategy consultant, and the pragmatism of a seasoned executive with the dynamism of a serial entrepreneur. After earning a PhD in politics from Cambridge and teaching at Harvard, Stephen began his business career with The Boston Consulting Group in 1998, advising Fortune 500 and global equivalent firms. He left to help set up and run the corporate development function at TMX Group and its energy subsidiaries, before co-founding and running an award-winning edtech startup that attracted over a million customers. Stephen returned to consulting in 2016 as a founding member of the Business Development Bank of Canada's elite Growth Driver Program for High-Impact Firms, and with a renewed personal mission: to turn learning into a lasting source of competitive advantage for companies of all sizes. He proceeded to co-found Framework, a growth consultancy, and Rimrock Partners, an Advisory Board provider. Stephen holds a PhD in Social and Political Sciences from Cambridge, a Joint Honours BA in Economics and Political Science from McGill, and Family Enterprise Canada's Family Enterprise Advisor (FEA) designation, representing the highest standards for ethical and advisory practice in serving business families. In addition to speaking professionally and editing Framework's Unsolicited Advice blog, he is co-author (with Karissa Price) of the forthcoming The War for WHY: How Companies Can Make Purpose Work (And Everyone Happier) For Real (2023).
