I'm just a down to earth woman who learned to put expiration dates on her past and live in her purpose. My childhood wasn't the best, I suffered abuse by a stepfather, was in a foster home and watched my mother get abused relationship, after relationship. I never knew my father and therefore that absence made me look for love in all the wrong places. I used to allow those issues and much more dictate who I was and/or who I was to become - BUT I realized one day, that I'm only a victim if I continue to live as one. I had two choices, let my past dictate my future or take those bad energies and turn them into positive ones, it may sound cliche' but it's really true - we all have choices. I am NOT my past; a product of it, yes, but a victim, NO MORE! I'm not rich and I don't have everything I want or desire but I'm happy, I'm healthy and most of all I'M WHOLE! My aim is to encourage people to put expiration dates on the past and start living for the future. We only get one life, what are you going to do with it.

You know how organizations deal with infighting, silos, low productivity – things costing them a fortune and making cultures miserable. In addition to my book, I have a program called The Leadership Tinderbox, where I give people the Seven Legendary Leadership Secrets – in less than an hour that is guaranteed to get their team to really perform today, right now, recognizing today’s environment and everything that comes along with that. I am a professional speaker and seeker of knowledge, improving leaders and organizations – with a driving passion for impacting others through storytelling. I am the author of The Leadership Tinderbox series of books on leadership. I am a breaker of useless rules, a marathon finisher, a mom, and a dog rescuer. I lead programs on current methods, 2019 and the future, focused on decisive and powerful leadership capabilities. I am a little bit neuroscience, a little bit rock and roll and a whole bunch of humor. I influence people through keynotes, consulting, and coaching - igniting others to be as passionate about leadership and life as I am after a lifetime of leading and developing successful leaders.

When it comes to project management, there are process people and there are culture people. But unfortunately, many times those people aren’t one and the same. When you have someone who’s good at processes and bad with people, employee retention rates plummet. On the other hand, if you have someone who’s good with people but lets the processes fall through, productivity suffers. I have 15 years of bringing together the right people and processes to improve productivity and workplace culture using the following method: Understanding Culture—I take time to get to know how things work and why the process and culture have developed the way they have. This helps me to identify the immediate pain points and determine how to approach stakeholders in addressing the issues at hand. Goals and Objectives—I work with the team to determine their short-term needs for the first year in order to keep things moving forward. Then I map out their overall goals and objectives—things that need to happen in the long term to attain stability and growth. Implementation—Starting with an annual kickoff meeting to discuss the objective for the year, I identify the team leaders who will spearhead the milestones that will help us achieve our goals over time. I keep my eye on the big picture while empowering them to utilize their expertise in accomplishing day-to-day projects. Communication—I establish a regular weekly meeting with team leaders to keep on top of their progress and hold a larger team meeting every 6 months. I make sure we’re all heading in the same direction and if course corrections are needed, we make changes early to overcome the obstacles. I encourage an open discourse in challenging my direction and ideas regardless of your position within the company to make sure that every view point is heard. It goes without saying that being miserable at work ruins productivity. My method for ensuring a good workplace culture is by improving processes and procedures through collaboration and communication. When employees understand and even help create the goals and objectives and when accountability is visible from the top down, they are more engaged in their work and productivity increases.

Helping people experience their very best in personal growth and professional development is my greatest joy! I cut my teeth selling Apple computers in the early days in Silicon Valley. There was no product training, and barely anyone had heard of Apple computers. Those in the know greeted the name with a guffaw! I still run into people who remember me as the person who sold their company an Apple. For 20 years I climbed the corporate sales ladder—in a man’s world—all the way to vice president of international sales for a software firm in Santa Clara. On the way up, I became a certified Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) trainer. NLP is simply the study of the language of your mind and the minds of others. It lets you listen via verbal and non-verbal language in to what’s underneath what a prospect or customer says, throwing open relationship doors and exploding sales. I left Silicon Valley for Grand Rapids, Michigan to spend the final years of their lives with both my parents. While there, I was the executive director of a non-profit under the Office of the Surgeon General and Homeland Security. One or the most meaningful jobs of my life, medical professionals were trained to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies like 9/11, Katrina and school shootings. I’ve been living in Reno, the Biggest Little City In The World, with my husband and two rescued cats for the past eight years. I loved college, where I became a dancing, Spanish-speaking engineer who paints. And art has remained my favorite hobby, today in the form of knitting and crocheting, tangling with Zentangle™, and playing with colored pencil, charcoal, and acrylics. I’m also an expert at “Moulage,” or blood, guts, and gore makeup; it’s an outlet for expressing my dark side. I served our country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam war. They promised me everything, gave me a typewriter, and sent me to Guam! There, I was decorated for my work during the fall of Saigon in 1975. Before leaving the Air Force, I had the privilege of painting an 11′ x 9′ mural for the press room to honor the “Female Introductory Pilot Program”. Women would finally be allowed to pilot airplanes in the Air Force – cargo planes. How far we have come – women were finally able to pilot jets in 1993! When people ask me about the things I’ve done, my life experiences, I tell them that I’m “living all my past lives out loud now,” here in this lifetime! Someone recently asked me if there’s anything I cannot do. I said that my final frontier is to ride a horse. I know one is waiting for me on this summer’s horizon.
