For many public speakers, getting booked isn’t just about having a polished speaker reel or the perfect pitch—it’s also about being visible in the right ways. One often overlooked strategy that can help you land more speaking engagements is simply this: talk about your goals.
When you publicly share your ambitions—whether it's booking your first paid gig or speaking on five stages this quarter—you create energy, visibility, and even referrals around your mission. This is a practical move, not just a mindset shift.
Here’s why this approach works for speakers:
You stay top of mind: People in your network can’t refer or recommend you if they don’t know what you’re looking for. Clear, spoken goals help others help you.
You position yourself as intentional: Instead of being someone who occasionally speaks, you become a professional who is actively building a speaking business.
You create momentum: Declaring your goals turns passive dreams into an active pursuit—one that others can witness and support.

To make this strategy work, here are some simple yet effective tips:
Say “I’m looking to book three virtual speaking engagements in the education sector this quarter,” instead of “I want to speak more.” Specificity opens doors.
Talk about your goals in networking groups, on social media, or even in your newsletter. Repetition builds recognition.
Include a simple call to action like, “If you know of an event looking for speakers in [your niche], I’d love an intro.”
When you say your goals out loud, you naturally become more accountable. Here’s how to maintain that momentum:
Join a speaker community: Being part of a group where others are pursuing speaking gigs can keep you focused and motivated.
Track your goals publicly: Consider sharing your speaking progress on LinkedIn or via your website to demonstrate credibility and growth.

Speaking goals are meant to be shared. They’re the foundation of a thriving speaking business—not just dreams but directions. Start saying them out loud, often and clearly. The more you speak them, the faster you’ll see progress.
